STCU Inserm Transfert

On 5-7 of February 2014, delegation of the Inserm Transfert that is a technology transfer affiliate of the INSERM (French National Institute of Health and Medical Research) visited the STCU and STCU partner research institutes in Kyiv. The Inserm Transfert mission to Ukraine was organized by the STCU with a purpose to establish collaborative and partner cooperation between the INSERM and its affiliates, STCU and advanced Ukrainian Research Institutions in Biomedical research area. The Inserm Transfert expert’s delegation included Dr. Christophe Cans, Director of Translational Research, Open Innovation Department; Mr.Pierre Benayoun, Project Manager, International Affairs and Tech Transfer Department; Dr. Alexis Fialkovsky, European Patent Attorney, Intellectual Property Department. The STCU Senior Specialist in Bioarea Dr. Vlada Pashynska has assisted in the mission organization and fulfillment.


On 5 of February the Roundtable meeting at the Kyiv STCU Head Office took place with participation of the Inserm Transfert representatives, STCU specialists and Ukrainian scientists. The Scientific and University Cooperation Attache of the French Embassy in Ukraine Dr. Gilles Mametz took part in the meeting too. The STCU Deputy Executive Director Dr. Igor Lytvynov welcomed the meeting and SS Vlada Pashynska presented the STCU current initiatives in Biomedical research area. A report “An ecosystem for excellence in biomedical research in Europe” presented by the French colleagues allowed the getting know about the INSERM structure and research directions, Inserm Transfert area of activity and Inserm Transfert initiatives in international cooperation and technology transfer in Bioemedical area. A number of advanced Ukrainian biomedical technologies and researches have been presented by some Ukrainian leading scientists in the area: Academician of the NAS of Ukraine Pr. Sergiy Komisarenko, Director of Palladin Institute of Biochemistry of the NAS of Ukraine, and delegation of the Institute; Prof. Rostyslav Stoika, Head of Department of Regulation of Cell Proliferation and Apoptosis, Institute of Cell Biology of NAS of Ukraine; Dr.Sc. Tatiana Ignatieva, Senior Researcher, National Scientific Centre “Kharkiv Institute oh Physics and Technology”, etc.

On 6 of February the Inserm Transfert-STCU delegation visited the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The scientific conference leaded by the Institute Deputy Director, Corresponding Member of NAS of Ukraine Prof. Michael Tukalo was held to present the most significant Institute results and project proposals for the international cooperation. The following visits to the advanced Institute laboratories and on place discussions of the possible scientific cooperation of the IMBG and Inserm Transfert experts were carried out.

On 7 of February Kavetsky Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was visited by the Inserm-STCU mission. On the meeting with the Institute Director, Academician of the NAS of Ukraine Prof. Vasyl Chekhun, and a number of leading scientists the Institute’s achievements in the oncology area were presented and discussed. The Biotechnology Center of the IEPOR has been presented to the delegation by Prof. Grigorii Potebnia and Dr. Ivan Boiko. On 7 of February the delegation also visited the National Cancer Institute to discuss the technology of Prof. Valerii Orel, Head of Medical Physics and Bioengineering Laboratory of the National Cancer Institute.

The mission performed is considered as a basis for the following partnership between the Inserm Transfert, the STCU and associated Bio-Institutions to support the advanced research and biomedical technology transfer in the STCU recipient countries.
